Hello and welcome! My training, practice and belief is that therapy needs to be oriented towards social justice- therapy is for all bodies, all identities, all abilities. I've been practicing art therapy since the 1970s, though back then, I didn’t realize there was a name for the emotions and thoughts I expressed through art.
As a kid, I was always dabbling in different mediums that helped externalize the myriad of feelings I had about being a misfit in this world or simply trying to work out a situation that was confusing. As I grew older, I discovered theater though more through the creation of huge murals and set designs.
I worked as a scenic artist until I discovered Art Therapy and realized how much I enjoyed sharing the discovery of art making as a means to connect our inner and outer experiences, then connecting with the world around us.
My approaches include looking at: Attachment, Somatic Experiencing, Anti-Oppression, Grief, Generational Trauma, and PTSD. Overall, I believe the most important aspect of therapy is building a relationship.
