My name is Shannon Halligan and I have been an artist all of my life. I know firsthand that art can be healing, it can help us communicate, it can help us cope with loss, change, and grief, and it can help us become a better version of ourselves.
The field of art therapy was suggested to me by a psychology professor during my undergrad years at Ithaca College. I had told her that I wanted to find a way to blend who I am into my career: using art and psychology to help others to improve their lives. She suggested art therapy and gave me a book on the subject. It was true love.
There was a way to take my first hand experiences and — through training in psychotherapy and art therapy — be able to offer people a different and unique therapeutic experience.
I received my M.S. in Art Therapy from Nazareth College of Rochester. I also hold a New York state license in Creative Arts Therapy (L-CAT) and I have been in private practice for many years, offering individual and group sessions to a wide variety of clients.
I am also a Certified Life Coach and Reiki Practitioner Level 1. I am in the process of obtaining my Reiki Master certification. I look forward to offering these services to clients in the near future.
I am honored that you are considering trying art therapy, and I would love an opportunity to show and guide you in the process of healing.
